Building a New Primary Part 1: Dis-Integrating the Nerf Demolisher

Happy All Hallows Eve everyone. I keeping with the “spirit” of the holiday, this post will be grusome and terrifying! It is the story of an innocent Nerf Blaster and the madman who did the unthinkable. The squimish and the faint of heart my wish to look away.

I have an appreciation for the Nerf Demolisher. It does a lot of things well. It seems to have the best “out-of-the-box” performance of any Nerf flywheel blaster, the banana mag looks really cool (even if it’s just a gimmick), and the grenade/missle launcher thing is fun to shoot. However, I have a one major complaint. It is way too bulky in the front. This leads to, in my opinion, an awkward fore grip position, and an all around unbalanced feel to the blaster. I understand that it isn’t really avoidable when you integrate one blaster into another like this, but then, I never cared much for integrations. I realize that there are practical reasons for integrations, especially in a Humans vs Zombies primary. However, every time I see one I can’t help thinking, “Yo Dawg, I heard you like Nerf blasters…” Don’t get me wrong. I mean no disrespect to the Nerfers who make good clean integrations, but it isn’t a part of modding that has ever captured my imagination. That said, read on to see what I’ve done to this poor helpless Demolisher.

I liked the flywheel blaster. I liked the grenade launcher. I liked the shell, but thought it would look better with some minimization. Then it occured to me, I had to separate these conjoined twins in order for them to live better lives!

Here is the result of my hack job. It now reminds me of a Boltgun from WarHammer 40k or a 10mm submachine gun from Fallout 3. I intend for this blaster to be an alternate primary for myself. I’m going to rebuild the fore grip, and eventually give it a nice paint job. I’ll probably rewire the thing while I’m at it. I may go so far as to do a motor swap. Suffice it to say, this thing is going to be a mean little beast when I’m done.

The Carnage

Behold the butchery! Don’t worry, I’ll clean it up. Trust me, it’s going to look awesome.

Parts is Parts

Here is the grenade launcher. It still works just fine like this…

…but I salvaged as much of the shell as I could anyway. I have diabolical plans for this little grenade launcher, plans that Dr. Frankenstien himself would be proud of. I won’t say too much right now, but it involves harvesting parts from other discarded blasters…

…such as this Nerf Titan that I found at a thrift store for $3. Mu-wah-ha-ha!

To be continued…
